Buff Allen - Drums (1994 - 2006)
Buff has had over thirty-nine years of professional playing experience, while living in Toronto and now again in Vancouver. He has worked with such artists as Diana Krall, Daniel Lanois, Pat Coleman, Bob Murphy, Ed Bickert, Moe Koffman, Rob McConnell, Sam Noto, Eugene Amaro, Hagood Hardy, Kathryn Moses, Peter Appleyard, Phil Nimmons, Hank Jones, Teddy Wilson, Lenny Breau, Johnny Guenieri, Red Norvo, Johnny Hartman, Maxine Sullivan, Paul Horn, VEJI, Drum Heat, Benny Wallace, Joanne Brackeen, Carol Welsman, Kenny Wheeler, and Chuck Israels. He has also worked on numerous television and movie soundtracks, including playing percussion on the MacGyver and Lonesome Dove television series, jingles, albums, and a large variety of theatre and popular work. He was the recipient of a 1989 Juno Award for Best Jazz Album with the Hugh Fraser Quintet (Looking Up), and was a Juno nominee in 2003 for his work with Joani Taylor and Bob Murphy on The Wall Street Sessions, as well as the 1987 Laureate in the CBC-Alcan competition at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. In 1991 he was a Canada Council jury member for choosing grant recipients. Buff taught drums at Malaspina College for ten years, and continues to be the drum and percussion instructor for the Summer Jazz Academy there. Buff has also taught at the Victoria Conservatory for their Summer Jazz program, and at the Pacific Audio Video Institute. He has played in every Magic of Christmas show since 1994.
